POSITION DESCRIPTION:The Controller is responsible for managing the strategic direction of theAccounting Department consistent with the Credit Union s goals andobjectives. The Controller insures relevant Credit Union initiatives receiveappropriate support from an accounting perspective to include new and enhancedproducts and services, system conversions and upgrades, mergers andacquisitions, accounts payable and other expenditures.Responsibilities include the development and maintenance of the accounting andgeneral ledger infrastructure to support the recording of financialtransactions in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. The positionrequires a solid understanding of cross-functional areas to include productsand services offered to insure the proper accounting treatment of financialtransactions. The Controller is responsible for remaining current with changesin accounting pronouncements and regulatory issues to assess the impact on theCredit Union s accounting processes. The Controller must be intenselyfamiliar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP),pronouncements and statements issued by the Financial Standards AccountingBoard (FASB), and the National Credit Union Association (NCUA) Rulesand Regulations. In addition, the Controller works closely with the Directorof Finance regarding the impact of accounting processes on the CreditUnion s financial statements preparation, budget, and Asset LiabilityManagemenThe Controller oversees a staff of accounting professionals and is ultimatelyresponsible for staff training, development, work quality and productionof department personnel. The Controller is responsible for implementing costand time-saving processes to insure maximum efficiency of the AccountingDepartment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Research, develop, and implement accounting processes to support creditunion products and services, system conversions, upgrades, mergers andacquisitions, and other strategic initiatives as directed by SeniorManagement. Develop, control and manage the General Ledger infrastructure andaccounting processes to include all financial transactions, credit unionexpenditures, and cash management. Oversee support for a staff of accounting professionals, whileimplementing cost and time-saving processes relevant to the accountingfunction. Responsible for department budget. Responsible for the timely submission of accounting data for month-endclose, regulatory reporting, and financial auditing. Other duties as required Serve as liaison between the credit union regulators and auditors regardingaccounting-related functions.EDUCATION:Knowledge consistent with a Bachelor s Degree in AccountingPreferred: Master s Degree in Accounting or FinanceMINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:7+ years financial institution experience within the accounting orfinance fields.3+ years experience with a $1 billion-plus assets financial institution.2+ years management experience over accounting or finance arenas.Preferred: Credit Union accounting management experience with experience incompleting regulatory reports.TECHNICAL OR SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Ability to independently analyze complex accounting transactions andgeneral ledger variances. Ability to make rational, independent business decisions using a highlevel of common sense. Solid understanding of credit union or bank products and services to assessimpact of accounting implications to include accruals, deferrals, andcontingent liabilities. Remain current with NCUA Rules and Regulations as they pertain to theaccounting function of the Credit Union. Ensure that all credit union financial transactions are posted timely andaccurately, in compliance with GAAP, to properly record and safeguard theCredit Union assets. Ensure proper management and oversight of the credit union s cash position. Remain current with statements issued by the Financial Accounting StandardsBoard (FASB) to assess impact to accounting processes and ensurecompliance
